My 4-hander adaptation of Henry James’ novella ‘TURN OF THE SCREW’ was successfully produced by Dermot McLaughlin, the Mercury Theatre Colchester and the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton in 2018. Opening in Colchester in February, it toured the UK through the spring, and the text was published by Oberon Books in the autumn. The production will be revived this year, opening in Exeter in the spring, and touring the UK for a further 12 weeks. For information on the tour: https://www.
James’ original novella deals with sexual taboos and elements of evil in a way that was psychologically way ahead of its time. As the adaptor, my task was to retain as much of the ambiguity from the original as possible. Not easy on the stage where something either is or isn’t!
