Warrior

Warrior was the first of many plays I directed in the Minerva Theatre in Chichester, and was a storming success. Sam Mendes (then Artistic Director of the Minerva) paired me with Shirley Gee’s coruscating play, in which Lois Harvey made a sensation of the cross-dressing heroine, and the whole company, which included a young Tom Hollander, gave a passionate and convincing performance. Together we created the most rumbustious eighteenth century world within the twentieth century concrete hexagon of the Minerva.
