The Power and the Glory

Location: Chichester

Date: 1990

Edward Petherbridge played the Whiskey Priest in this revival of Graham Greene’s play of his own book, (in which, incidentally, a young Dougray Scott featured as a menacing Lopez!) Greene collaborated with Denis Cannon to make the play, and in Paul Farnsworth’s great set (a decayed golden roofed cathedral) the epic nature of the story worked really well.

Corin Buckeridge wrote some astonishing music and we used what now seems like hundreds of local amateur enthusiasts as Mexican peasants. It was a beautiful event.
