September, 2024: My agent kindly lent us his theatre space to do a rehearsed reading of Playing Hitler. One of my favourite actors, George Kemp, made a wonderful Ernst Röhm, and an actor I'd never worked with before called Jonathon Keeble was Hitler before, during and after he took power, growing into a monster in front of our eyes. It was alarming and rewarding all at once, rewarding to see the play alive for the first time. As a historical analysis of ‘queerness’, I think it’s strong. As a reaction to the sudden spectacular rise of international fascism, it seemed timely and urgent.
Thanks to everyone who made up the company: Josh Barrow, Elizabeth Crarer, Caroline Moroney, Adam Scott-Rowley, Tigger Blaize, and to all those who came including Steven, brother Chris, Feds and Susannah.
